Team BC excels at 41st  Annual Hawaiian Invitational Water Polo tournament

Vancouver, B.C. – August 12, 2009  - Four Medal Round Performances for Team BC

Tomorrow morning the four squads comprising Team BC return from the 41st Annual Hawaiian Invitational Water Polo Tournament, in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA --- the largest and longest-running international invitational water polo tournament in the world. Each year 100 teams are invited to compete in this showcase event.

This year the tournament welcomed US club teams as well as teams from Australia, Brazil, New Zealand and of course our own Team BC to participate in a week of non-stop, competitive water polo.

Our young athletes had great success with all four teams reaching the medal round in their respective divisions.  The final results had our 18 and Under Boys taking 1st place, the 16 and Under Boys taking 2nd place, the 16 and Under Girls 3rd and the 18 and Under Girls in 4th place.

The U18 boys final was particularly exciting with the Team BC Squad getting the winning goal over SoPenn with just 2 seconds to go in regulation time.  The last minute was frenetic with 3 alternating direct shot goals in the final 21 seconds with the game ending 6-5!  For his efforts Team BC #2 - Cody Dodds (Maple Ridge - team Captain) with 1 goal in the game was recognized MVP.  Alexander Vazeos (Coquitlam) scored the winning goal while Chris Vanjoff (Abbotsford) scored 3 times and Julian Kotylak (Maple Ridge) tallied once.
